Together we kept Canada out of Iraq

Now we must keep Canada out of Bush’s Star Wars

Dear fellow Canadian,

George Bush’s visit to Canada offers an opportunity to stand up for Canadian values of peace, multilateralism, and arms control. It’s an opportunity to speak loudly and clearly that Canada does not want to participate in Star wars missile defence.

And we need to act now if we’re going to prevent Paul Martin’s Liberals from involving Canada in Star Wars.

I stand with you and the majority of Canadians in firmly rejecting the idea of Star Wars missile defense. It is a dangerous and unilateral approach that will weaponize space and trigger a new arms race.

We need to make sure Paul Martin hears that message loud and clear — before its too late.

That’s why we have set up the NDP Stop Star Wars Campaign fund. We urgently need your support so we can mobilze individuals, families, workplaces and social groups across the country to say ‘No’to Star Wars in Canada. We need to get the message out to as many Canadians as possible, as quickly as possible.

There isn’t much time. The Liberals have already said they will start negotiating first, then ask Canadians later. I say that’s unacceptable. Don’t let Paul Martin negotiate away Canadian values to George Bush.

Canadians spoke loudly and clearly to keep Canada out of George Bush’s war on Iraq. Now, once again, we must need to stand up for Canadian values and say “NO” to Canada’s involvement in Bush’s Star Wars missile defence.

Together, we can protect Canadian values and make our world safer.

Sincerely,

Jack Layton,
Canada’s New Democratic Party.
