The latest round of corporate control and dominance is now playing itself out in Montreal, and it seems International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew finds lawful assembly in Canada as a hindrance to the advancement of the removal of trade barriers and tariffs. Pettigrew was quoted as saying, “If they want to stop us, fine, go ahead and try”. Well Pierre, that is just what is going to happen whether you think the effort is worth it or not.
Pierre goes on show his ignorance even further by offering up this moronic statement, “I trust the police of Montreal but the protesters should bear the responsibility that what they're trying to do is really to screw the African cotton farmers and the African HIV victims as well.”
Screw the people in the third world eh Pierre? It is your lot that is pushing these one-sided trade deals that are making victims of the third world. There is a whole host of trade deals and agreements that ensure the people of Africa cannot get easy and cheap access to drugs to fight HIV, not the protesters on the streets. It is the first world closing their borders to and placing large subsidies on farm products that hurt African cotton farmers, not the protesters on the street Pierre.
What is more is the fact that this continued push for corporate globalization has manifested itself into the outright sale of Canada. Pierre must think 50% foreign ownership is great for Canada, as he makes no mention of it. The Liberal government of Canada is selling our nation and they do not care who gets hurt in the process. Just don’t be seen on the streets protesting corporate rule and agendas – you will be blamed for the outcomes of deals that are made behind closed doors with no citizen oversight or recourse.
So if Pierre cares not for his own nation how can we believe his crocodile tears over the people in the third world? Hypocrite comes to mind.
What will Pierre have to say about the protesters vandalizing the Gap? Does this hurt the people in the third world Pierre or just those that donate money to the Liberal Party? Do some reading Pierre, the case against the Gap and companies like it is very clear-cut.
Removing tariffs as Pierre suggests is a great move to help those in third world. What it really means is nothing more than a continuance of the sweatshop horrors, which are very reminiscent of the industrial revolution of the 1700s. Read more on the GAP HERE. When you are finished reading, send the link to Pierre so he can educate himself so he does not look so stupid the next time he spouts off.
We would put these questions and article to Pierre Pettigrew ourselves, but he has ignored us in the past and most certainly will ignore us this time. For this great public service – Pierre is going to be the inaugural member of our Hall of Delinquents. (Stay tuned for more!)
