Why Murray Dobbin Should Come Out of the Closet

Writer Murray Dobbin and the NDP, Why No Disclosure?

By Ricardo Rant

Columnist and author Murray Dobbin is a Canadian writer that I find myself reading very often as his work seems to be just about everywhere. I have also come to the conclusion that this has either gone to his head, or he is abusing his position as such.

I say that for the following reasons. It is election time in Canada and writers from one end of this country to the other are busy writing their pieces on all matters of topics. Most do a very good job at sticking to the bare bones facts, and don’t fall into the game of playing one team against the others. Even the corporate media in Canada and those that write for them are doing a decent job of staying neutral when doing their reporting. This is not true with Murray Dobbin.

Murray just released his second long-winded screed against the Green Party of Canada, and their party leader Jim Harris. While he is free to do so all he likes, it is the manner surrounding his releases that should garner our attention. For Murray is solidly pro-NDP in stance and prose, but yet refuses to come out and say it for the world to hear. His latest attempt to smear the Greens was published on the Tyee Internet site.

For those that read the Tyee, and I highly recommend you do read it for the other great writers and pieces, you may have noticed that again last week (like last year) Rafe Mair came right out and said – “Why I’m Voting Green.” He could not be clearer to his readers on his position, thus anything else he writes or says on the elections must be based on that earlier statement. Call it a solid disclosure if you will. And good for him too, as coming right out with the truth is the least we should expect from someone who is read and heard by thousands.

Murray Dobbin on the other hand has not said such a thing while he has systematically attacked not only the Greens, but also the Liberals and Conservatives. This is not a recent event either. As part of his “Word Warrior” campaign in which he releases talking points for Canadians to base letters to the editor from, he has never once attacked or even mentioned the NDP in a negative light. Not once. If this is his way of disclosing his allegiance, it is rather underhanded and sneaky to say the least.

I have two years worth of Word Warrior talking points to back up my claim of his blind support for the NDP. Murray would like us attack the other parties while ignoring the plethora of information that could be said about the NDP both provincially and federally. With titles like, “The NDP’s tax proposals are dead on,” and “Greens vs. NDP: who’s greener?” it is painfully obvious of where his loyalties are. Meanwhile his NDP would be to the casual observer floating on perfection and above criticism, which is hardly the state of affairs, as we all know.

Murray’s attacks on the Greens are part and parcel of typical NDP supporters for they feel that the Greens split the vote at their detriment, hence the stumbling and bumbling of Murray to cast stones at the house known as the Green Party. While the Greens are certainly open to attack, and should be as part of any conscientious writers’ work, a truly balanced writer would at least once in the last two years take notice of the NDP for reasons other than to tear down their competitors.

Why does Murray not find a problem with a known and admitted thief running for public office? A thief!  Or what about the extraordinary account of a former governor general running for the NDP?  According to Murray that is not worth a mention, and certainly not worth a letter to the editor.  But when it comes to Harris, Harper and Martin, and those that support them, any transgression is reason to bombard Canadian editorial boards with partisan letters.

I put faith in my fellow Canadians who subscribe to Murray’s Word Warrior list in that they can see through the bullshit slant of Mr. Dobbin.  I will stay on the list, not to hear his slant on the other parties but for the terrific information he brings forward in regard to cold hard numbers – otherwise know as – facts. Sadly the fact is, for Murray to be seen as a great writer and columnist in Canada he must do more.

So to Murray Dobbin – it is time to come out of your shrouded NDP closet. We can see you peaking through the slots already, just come right out and admit it; you support the NDP both provincially and federally in Canada over the other parties. Nobody will think less of you for saying so, but we will certainly think higher of you for having done so.

My disclosure – I am voting for the person, not the party, and I happen to like the Communist candidate.
